1 — Start Small
Start with the least aggressive method your material can tolerate — escalate only if it doesn't work. Jumping straight to a strong chemical or heavy abrasion often fixes the visible problem while causing damage that's harder to undo than the original stain.
2 — Know the Limit
Not every mark can be fully removed. If a contaminant has changed the material itself — dye loss, corrosion, deep staining — cleaning can stabilize or reduce it, but it won't restore the original state. Knowing that limit early saves time and prevents over-cleaning.
