1: Not Every Pairing Warning Has the Same Evidence Behind It

Some companion planting claims are backed by real research (allelopathy, nitrogen fixation), others are traditional practice with genuine track records, and some are just repeated folklore with no real mechanism behind them. Worth asking which kind you're dealing with before treating a warning as fact.

2: A Guild Is a System, Not Just a Group of Plants

Planting things near each other isn't the same as building a functioning guild — a real guild has each plant filling a specific role (nitrogen fixer, pest deterrent, groundcover, canopy). If you can't name what each plant is doing in the system, it's not a guild yet, it's just a garden bed.
